Deceased Name: Arlyn "Babe" Stevens
Arlyn "Babe" Stevens was born Feb. 4, 1917 and passed away June 1, 2001 in Bakersfield. He was a resident of Kern County since his retirement in 1976 from his job as a civil engineer with the California Department of Transportation. Babe graduated from the School of Mines in Socorro, N.M. with a degree in geology and worked in the mining industry in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. He served in the United States Navy, Seabees division, in the Pacific Theater and held the rank of Sergeant upon discharge from the United States Air Force. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. Babe pursued his love of geology throughout his life. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, winning many awards for his skills. He was proud to be a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He is survived by two daughters, Arlyn Macdonald of Montrose, Colo. and Sharyn Correia of Aurora, Colo.; a sister, Mary Stephenson of Hamilton, Tex. and a brother, Lanham Stevens of Ventura. He had five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Interment was with full military honors at the San Joaquin National Cemetery in Gustine, Cal. following cremation. Funeral arrangements were by Kern River Family Mortuary, Bakersfield.
