Rev. Oletha (Davenport) Williams was the daughter of Charles L. and Nora Y. Davenport. She was the wife of Charles Dwight Williams. They were married Leicester, New York August 7, 1936. Rev. Williams was a Local Preacher/Supply Pastor in the Genesee (Western New York/now Upper New York) Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She served Canisteo, Steuben Co., Corning District, New York 1929-1931 - Geneseo, Livingston Co., Rochester Dist., New York 1932-1943 - Covington, Wyoming Co., Rochester Dist., NY 1944-1946. Oletha was ordained Local Deacon Tuesday September 26, 1944 at Rochester: Asbury First Church by Bishop W. Earl Ledden (see Genesee Conference Journal 1945, Pgs. 249 and 259)

Oletha Davenport Williams was born on June 27, 1908 to Charles and Nora Davenport in Greenwood, New York, Steuben County. She graduated from Canisteo High School in 1923, then attended various higher education institutes, including School of Nursing at Ithaca, New York and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, religious education at Folts Mission Institute and Boston University where she received a bachelor of religious education degree in 1930. She also received a bachelor of library science degree from Geneseo in 1940. She continued her education throughout her life taking college courses at Cortland University and Auburn until 1996, when she was nearly eighty. She was married on August 7, 1936 to Dwight Williams at Leicester, New York and had three children, Charles born July 9, 1939, Roger born February 3, 1941 and Jon Henry born April 26, 1943. There are eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Oletha served the church in various capacities throughout her life. She was ordained Deacon Pastor at Covington, New York and served there 1936-1939. In 1957 she was employed in Ithaca as director of christian education for the Methodist Church. In 1967 she was the preacher at Tyrone Methodist Church. Then in 1972 she went to the Montezuma and South Butler Church until 1977 where she retired from active ministry. Oletha died on March 25, 2002 at the age of 94 in Watkins Glen, New York. Right up to the end she was an avid reader and active in many hobbies and activities. All those that were associated with her over her long life and service will miss her.
