He was one of 8 children born to Francis Xavier Stocker and Christina Bauerle. Born and baptized as Otto (Saint Boniface Church) in Evansville, he entered St. Meinrad Abbey in 1936 and professed his first vows there on August 6, 1937, taking the name of Bede. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1942 in the St. Meinrad Abbey Church in St. Meinrad, IN. In 1947 he transferred his vows to the new Marmion Abbey, becoming a founding member. After ordination Fr. Bede served in the printery of St. Meinrad Abbey. Before coming to Marmion in 1947 he also served as Assistant Pastor at St. Ferdinand Church in Ferdinand, IN. On coming to Marmion Abbey in 1947 he taught for several years at Marmion Academy. But his major contribution to the abbey community was a Novice Master and Superior of the young monks of the abbey. He served in this capacity for 20 years. He thus was responsible for the formation of several decades of Marmion monks. He served for 2 years as Associate Pastor of Annunciation Church in Aurora. In the early years of the development of the abbey and academy Fr. Bede was responsible for the landscaping of the property. Thus is largely responsible for having created the beautiful groves of trees and plants around the campus. In 1970 he was appointed Superintendent of the Christmas Tree farm and served in this capacity for the next 36 years. He was a faithful monk and devoted to his monastic community.
Fr. Bede is survived by the members of his monastic community and many nieces and nephews.
Father's body was received by his monastic community at Marmion Abbey. The funeral mass was celebrated in the Abbey Church of St. Augustine of Canterbury. Burial took place immediately afterwards in the Abbey cemetery.
