Irish nationalist and revolutionary, second in command during the Easter Rising of 1916, where he was first wounded. Chief of Staff for the Irish Republican Army, 1917-1919. Minister of Defense unitl 1922, but voted against the Anglo-Irish Treaty. Fatally wounded fighting in the 1922 Civil War.
