Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a second lieutenant and artilleryman in the 15th New York Battery. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (July 2, 1863). His citation reads "Held his ground with the battery after the other batteries had fallen back until compelled to draw his piece off by hand; he was severely wounded". His Medal was issued on October 18, 1892.
