Mrs. Dixon was summoned to the Peterson House by Robert Lincoln on the night of April 14th, 1865 in order to be with his mother, Mary, during the death watch for his father, President Abraham Lincoln after he was shot by John Wilkes Booth in Ford's Theatre. She remained with Mary throughout the night and accompanied her back to the White House the next morning after Lincoln died. She stayed at the White House for two hours and, when she was leaving to return home, witnessed the return of Lincoln's body.
