Buffalo, May 13 - Charles M. Reed, 69, superintendent of the Sangamon county home for the last twelve years and former deputy sheriff, died at 3 o'clock this morning a the home near Buffalo. He had been ill for five weeks. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the county home. Interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery, Springfield.
Mr. Reed was born June 24, 1857, in Cartwright township, and resided all his life in Sangamon county. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Reed. On February 13, 1878, he married Miss Amy Jane Van Doren, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter C. Van Doren, pioneer settlers of this vicinity.
Mr. Reed was known as a progressive farmer and specialized in the raising of pure bred Duroc Jersey hogs. He also was a breeder of sheep. He was a member of the Buffalo M. E. church, the Modern Woodmen of America, B.P.O. Elks and Royal Neighbors.
Members of the immediate family were in attendance at the bedside at the time of Mr. Reed's death. Surviving relatives include his wife, Amy Jane; two sons, Linford C., Tulsa, Okla., and C. Ernest, Springfield; six daughters, Mrs. Pearl Bramley, Divernon; Mrs. Blanche Kessler, Auburn; Mrs. Edna Lundgren, Olivet; Mrs. Ida May Harris, Springfield; Mrs. Ella Fitzhugh and Mrs. Helen Herrin, Buffalo; thirteen grandchildren, three brothers: J. W., Long Beach, Calif.; George M., Pleasant Springs, and Frank A. Drake, Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Mary Pollock, Springfield.
