Mervil G. "Merv" Knapp, 92, of Peoria Heights passed away at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at OSF St. Clare Home in Peoria Heights.

He was born on Oct. 6, 1917, in Saint Elmo, Ill., to George Allen and Pearl (Taylor) Knapp. He married Alma Fae Durbin on July 12, 1935, in Fayette County, Ill. She preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 1987, in Peoria Heights. He then later married Wanda Fischer in 1988, and she preceded him in death in 2007.

His parents; one daughter, G. Rosalie Knapp; and one brother, David E. Knapp; also preceded him in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Glenda (Vernon) Sander of Peoria Heights, Carol (John) Hopple of Brimfield and Linna (Steven) Helms of Peoria Heights. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Merv worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years, last as a foreman before retiring in 1974.

He was a former member of the UAW Local 974 and enjoyed fishing and camping.

A visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home, with a graveside service at 1:15 p.m. at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. The Rev. Steve Graffis will officiate.
