He was a son of Albert H. and Ada Willman Martin.

He married Agnes Katherine Farrell of Canton June 23, 1925, at St. Mary's Church. She died on Feb. 3, 1937.

He married Anne O'Brien of Canton April 23, 1938 at St. Mary's Church. She died in June 1962.

He married Gladys Barkley Aug. 3, 1962 at St. Mary's Church. She died in December 1970.

He became St. Lawrence County Sheriff on Jan. 1, 1925, at age 24. He was the youngest person ever elected to the office. Following his political career Mr. Martin ventured into farming, construction and beer wholesaling. The farming venture, begun during World War II, eventually led to his purchase of three farms that ultimately became Canton College's farm complex on the Canton-Pierrepont Road.

A World War I veteran, Mr. Mar tin was elected commander of the John C. Peggs post 67 of the American Legion in 1930. He founded the Martin Beer Distributorship in 1934 and retired from the business in 1967.

Surviving was a son, Edson Jr., Morristown; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Jean) Carroll, Canton, and Mrs. Sharon Hanford, Fort Lauderdale, FL; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Alberta Olin, Ogdensburg and Iona Warren, town of Clare.

A brother, Wayne, died previously.
