Mrs. Edgar S. Scott, widow of the former president of the Franklin Life Insurance company, died last night at Jacksonville, following an illness of more than two years. She was 63 years old. Mrs. Scott, daughter of John and Marianna Poe Brown, pioneers of Sangamon county, was born on a farm near Divernon, Aug. 20, 1868. She was educated at Jacksonville Female academy and the Illinois Conservatory of Music. She later studied music in Boston. On Oct. 21, 1891, she was united in marriage to Edgar S. Scott, who died March 23, 1914. Mrs. Scott united with First Presbyterian church on coming to Springfield as a bride. She was the first president of the local Young Women's Christian association, which she helped to organize and for several years she served in this capacity, giving generously of her strength and resources. Since her husband's death she had traveled widely spending the summers at her home in Michigan, where her daughter and grandchildren have been with her.

Mrs. Scott is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Randall Mitchell, and three granddaughters, Jane, Peggy and Caroline Mitchell of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, John Brown of Hastings, Neb., and two sisters, Mrs. E. G. Osborne of Los Angeles and Mrs. John B. Sikes of this city. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL 11-8-1931
