Daughter of William Howard and Julia Ann (Prather) Burdette. She received her education at a female academy in Troup County GA. After her education, she became a schoolteacher and moved with her family to Cleburne County AL, where she met and married Seaborn McDaniel Denson on 26 June 1874. They later moved to Winston County AL after their children were grown. This union produced eight children: Ida Denson Blake, Iva Denson McCoy, Seaborn Ivy Denson, James Thomas (Toss) Denson, William Philpot (Phil) Denson, Sidney Whitfield (Whitt) Denson, Robert E. Denson, and Evan E. Denson (see the children links below). Along with her husband, she was involved with Sacred Harp singing, composing the alto parts for many Sacred Harp songs in the 1911 Sacred Harp Book revision and wrote one popular Sacred Harp song entitled "The Marriage in the Skies." It has been said that she was the person who selected a Bible verse to be printed below the title of each song in the 1911 Sacred Harp Book revision. While visiting at the home of her daughter, Iva Denson McCoy, she was stricken with pain in her head and arm and died five days later at the age of 77. Her sister, Amanda, was married to Thomas Jackson Denson, Seaborn McDaniel Denson's brother.
