LT WALTER THOMPSON KENT WAS FERRYING A P-39 "AIRACOBRA" FROM GORE FIELD, MONTANA TO FAIRBANKS, ALASKA, FOR EVENTUAL DELIVERY TO RUSSIA, WHEN HIS PLANE DISAPPEARED. GROUND PARTIES AND AERIAL OBSERVERS SEARCHED THE AREA BUT NO TRACE WAS FOUND. THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY CONCLUDED THAT HE HAD BEEN ACCIDENTALLY KILLED AFTER FLYING INTO A STORM.

IN SEPTEMBER 1965 THE ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE DISCOVERED WRECKAGE OF THE P-39, ALONG WITH LT.KENT'S PERSONAL EFFECTS, NEAR WATSON LAKE IN THE YUKON TERRITORY.
