Born in Marion Ind. the only child of Myrtle Allen and Charles Snyder. She spent many early years living with her aunt and uncle as her mother Myrtle left Indiana for Detroit seeking work. She went to school in Detroit; graduating from Western High School. My Mother, like her mother before her, outlived 3 husbands. Walter Raschke; father of my sister Olive, William Simpson; father of my brother John and Fred Chaffee my father. My mother was a no nonsense person who had no time for people who "put on airs". During the time she was married to her second husband she went to work as a waitress/barmaid at the "Brewery Tap" located on Sylvester and Beaufait in Detroit. I grew up in the house located at 6438 Sylvester, which is no longer there. My Grandmother lived with us when I was little and later Glenard, my mom's cousin would live with us periodically. She always had time for family, PTA or other School functions. Later in life she developed alzheimers and was cared for in a nursing home in Farmington Hills where she spent her last days. She had 13 grandchildren and sadly died before the birth of my youngest daughter, and 2 days before the oldest daughters 7th birthday. Rest Peacefully Mom. We Miss you!
