Leon Wilkeson
Birth: Apr. 2, 1952
Jacksonville
Duval County
Florida
Death: Jul. 27, 2001
Ponte Vedra Beach
St. Johns County
Florida

Rock Musician. He was the bass guitarist for the Southern rock band "Lynyrd Skynyrd". On stage and on record, their full-throttle boogie style was both explosive and surprisingly graceful as evident in the genre's landmark "Free Bird" and "Sweet Home Alabama". Known for his outlandish hats, Leon Wilkeson survived the plane crash in 1977 that killed band memebers Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and singer Cassie Gaines. (bio by: Ron Moody)

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and grief to bear. What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer.
