Thomas grew up in an Irish neighborhood, where most people like his grandparents that emigrated from Ireland made their home in
Dorchester.
Thomas enlisted in the Marines 26 October 1965, at a Boston Recruiting Office, at the age of 17 years, 3 months and 16 days.
Arriving in Vietnam Thomas was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Thomas died as a result of gunshot wounds to the left arm and chest, during an engagement with hostile forces, 13 kilometers east northeast of Con Thien (Hill 158) while participating in Operation Prairie.
Survived by his parents, Anthony and Nora Kane and his sister, Mary Kane of 608 Columbia Road, Dorchester, MA.
