During World War II, Corporal George White was on duty with the Army Corps of Engineers on the Alaskan Highway construction project. He was killed when an errant dynamite blast struck the barracks where he was sleeping, March 15, 1943. Burial was made at the place of his death with full military honors.
A memorial service was held at Hope Lutheran Church and a memorial marker placed at the church cemetery.
He was survived by his wife, the former Miss Alice Rafnson; his mother, Mrs. Julianna White; brother, Sherlock; and two sisters: Stella and Lillian
