Painter. Jeremiah Meyer, an 18th century German-born English painter, was the appointed painter in miniatures and enamels to King George III and created the design for his portrait head on one of the British coins. He held the position of Painter in Miniatures to Queen Charlotte. He was one of the founding members of the Royal Academy. He contributed to the Academy's exhibitions until 1783, sending several portraits of members of the Royal Family. Born in Germany, he was a teenager when his father brought him to England. He did study with German painters. In 1761 he was awarded a gold medal prize of £20 by the Society of Artists for a portrait of the king in profile. He married an artist and the couple had at least six children. His home is now listed as a Grade II historical site since 1950 and forms part of the Herbarium of Kew Gardens. Besides being buried at St Anne's Church, a mural tablet to his memory, with a medallion portrait is inside St Anne's Church in Kew. His portrait was painted by William Pether in 1789 and is on exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
