He was a son of Mrs. John (Belle) Pethtel Hughes, of Rutan, and was born in Center township. Beside his mother he leaves his wife, Mrs. Elma Heidelmeier Pethtel, and one daughter, Geraldine, and the following brothers and sisters: Charles, of Wind Ridge; William, of Freeport, Ohio; Mrs. Samuel (Dora) McVay, Mrs. John (Myrtle) McVay and Miss Thelma Pethtel, of Washington; Mrs. William (Emma) Hughes, of Waynesburg, Mrs. Floyd (Olive) Watson, of Rutan, and Mrs. Orville (Cora) Sanders, of Hickory.
