Philosopher. He wrote the "Principia Ethica", which became a landmark work in the exploration of moral philosophy. It was published in 1903 and was a specific response to the previous metaphysical idealism espoused by philosophers such as J. M. E. McTaggart and others. The book would go on to influence later works and explorations of moral ethics in a number of different fields by a number of scholars, such as chemist C.P. Snow and economist John Maynard Keynes.

Inscription

Here lies the great philosopher
Who did not like the world to err,
Who did not err himself, but died
Forever not quite satisfied
That he was not a silly, though
His wise friends never thought him so.
