Lt. Col. (Ret.) Robert W. Weary Jr., of Gardners, died September 25, 2010, in Washington, D.C.

Born March 19, 1939 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Robert W. and D. Alice Kost Weary, Sr.

He was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1957, and the University of Tampa, FL.

Mr. Weary retired after 22 years of service as Director of Human Resources for Knouse Foods, Peach Glen.

Robert was a member of Gettysburg Presbyterian Church for 20 years. He was a NCAA swimming judge for District III for over 30 years. Robert was president of Gettysburg Hospital Board and Wellspan Board for 26 years. He was a former member of the AAA Central Penn Board of Directors; a member and past president of Man Tech Board; a member of Pa. Food Processors Board; a member of Gettysburg Country Club Board and a member of Pa. Farm Show Board. He was also an avid golfer, who played at every opportunity and loved horses, both riding and caring for them at Bonnybrook.

Lt. Col. Weary was a U.S. Army veteran of 23 years who served two tours during the Vietnam War. Robert was awarded the Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal (2 oak leaf clusters), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2nd award), Army Commendation Medal (2 oak leaf clusters) Meritorious Service Medal, Overseas Service bars (4), Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with bronze star.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Lyn Weary of Gardners; one son, Robert W. Weary III and wife Megan of Charlottesville, VA; one daughter, Michelle McKeehan of Harrisburg; two brothers, Richard B. Weary of Carlisle and John D. Weary of Mechanicsburg; one sister, Marjorie Todd of Mount Holly Springs; one granddaughter, Eloise Weary of Charlottesville, VA; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jacqueline Weary Yeager.

Burial was in Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors.
