Obituary Garland Cornwell, age 92, of Murphy, NC passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010 at the Valley View Care Center in Andrews, NC.
He was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late Lester and Lillie Humphries Cornwell. Garland was a US World War II Air Force veteran. He was a member of New Hope Church of God in Murphy. Garland attended Mt. View Church in Andrews, NC. He loved his family, friends, fishing and working outside.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Montgomery Cornwell; twin brother, Harland, brother, Ralph and two sisters, Bessie Rogers and Verdie Ashe.
He is survived by his children, Susie and her husband, Clay (Eddie) Hardin of Andrews, NC, James Cornwell and his wife, Linda of Mineral Bluff, GA; one sister, Edith Nantz of Greenwood, SC; five grandchildren and their spouses, Clinton and Montrece Jordan Hardin of Murphy, NC, Misty and Rick Higginson of Edmond, OK, Brenton and Hannah Raper Hardin of Murphy, NC, Dalton Davis and David Henson both of Mineral Bluff, GA; five great-grandchildren, Andi and Dan Anderson of Edmond, OK, Addisyn, Jonah and Samuel Hardin of Murphy, NC.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Son-in-law, Clay (Eddie) Hardin will officiate. Burial will be in the Ogreeta Cemetery in Murphy, NC with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post, #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73, Hayesville American Legion Post 532 and Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol). . Pallbearers will be Clinton Hardin, Brenton Hardin, Darian West, David Henson, Johnny Hall and Leon Hall.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC.
