Politician. Sir Harbottle Grimston, 2nd Baronet, was a judge and Speaker of the House of Commons in 1660 during the Cromwellian period. From 1640 to 1685, he served in the House of Commons at various periods. He was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and became a barrister of Lincoln's Inn. His first wife, Mary, a daughter of Sir George Croke, bore him six sons and two daughters before he became a widower. He married second a widow, Anne Meautys, who was the daughter of painter Sir Nathaniel Bacon, and the couple had a daughter. His wife's uncle was Francis Bacon. Sir Harbottle purchased the estate of Gorhambury, formerly owned by Francis Bacon, and was rumored to have been buried in Bacon's vault, displacing Bacon's coffin.
