Major General U.S Army 27th Division, 105th Infantry.
Veteran of the Mexican conflict of 1916, World War I and World War II. Twice wounded in France WWI. 1918 rank 1st Lieutenant. Received a citation from the 27th Division headquarters, the Belgian Croix de Guerre and the Conspicuous Service Cross. A graduate of Albany Law School 1915 he gave up private practice and remained active in the military, promoted to Major n 1926. Succeeded to Colonel in 1937. In October 1940 the 27th Division was federalized and Col. Ross went to Ft. McClellan in Alabama to command 105th Infantry. He took command of the Hawaiian Islands, becoming deputy commander of the division during the Saipan campaign. Later made military governor of Kwajalein Island, one of the Gilbert and Marshall Island strongholds of the Japanese. He was awarded the Silver Star and Legion of Merit, both from the Navy and the Army during World War II. HIs many civic commitments include his being an elder in First Presbyterian Church of Troy; member of the Troy Chamber of Commerce; County Historical Society; trustee, Emma Willard School; vice president, board of directors, Samaritan Hospital and others. Gen. Ross joined the Troy Savings Bank in 1948 as assistant treasurer, and had been secretary since 1960. He retired in 1953 as Major General of the 27th Division. Gen. Ross, son of the late Elias Ogden Ross and Jean M. Neely, is survived by his wife Elizabeth W. Cheney; a son Ogden C. Ross of Troy; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph P.
