John Alfred Caldwell, son of David and Jane Caldwell, was born April 20, 1855, and passed away on October 16, 1940, at Eldon, Mo.
He was united in marriage to Mollie Vann June 25, 1876.
To this union 10 children were born. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Morris of Canyon City, Colo. and Mrs. Lucy Gouge, Eldon, Mo.; and six children, Mrs. Evalena James, Eldon, Mo.; Foley Caldwell, Independence, Kans.; Mrs. Carrie Houser, Liberty, Mo.; Clarence E. Caldwell, Eldon, Mo.; Mrs. Jennie Bowden, Eldon, Mo.; and Mrs. Maude Simmons, Kansas City, Mo.
There are 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
John Caldwell was converted to the Christian Faith early in life and united with the Blue Springs Church. He was ordained to the Baptist ministry in 1902. His ministry was
largely in Miller, Morgan, Laclede, Camden, and Pulaski counties. He was active in the ministry as pastor and missionary up to within a few years of his death.
Rev. Caldwell lay in state at the Kays Funeral Home Chapel until Friday at 2 p.m. when a loving and impressive service was conducted by Rev. David Vaughan at Mt. Carmel Church.
A special song was rendered by Rev. D. W. Jones of the Eldon Church. Interment was made in the Lamb Cemetery. found in Riley Lamm cemetery!
