Civil War Confederate Army Officer. Served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 22nd Tennessee Cavalry

Col. C. R. Barteau, a prominent citizen of Memphis for years died at his home, Bartlett, Tenn., last night at 10 o'clock, from pneumonia. He had been sick about a week.
Col. Barteau was last seen in the city some days ago, and to his friends he seemed to be in the best of health. None knew that he was ill, and his death last night will be a surprise, in spite of his age. He was 65 years old.
Col, Barteau leaves a wife and three daughters. Mrs T. B. Caldwell, wife of Hon. T.B. Caldwell, is his youngest, and daughter of his second wife, who survives him. His other two daughters are Mrs. Westbrook of Brunswick, Tennessee, and Mrs Schutz of California.
Obituary from The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, Tennessee, 11 February 1900, page 9.
