Vinnie was born in Clarksville, Texas, on or about October 11, 1871, the youngest of four children of Sampson Lewis and Patsy Smith Lewis. She received her early religious training at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where her brother, the Rev. Edmond Lewis, was also an associate pastor.
Vinnie married William H. Davis on December 26, 1890 in Clarksville, Texas. One child, James Davis, was born to this union.
During the latter 1920s, Vinnie relocated to Kansas City, Kansas. There she met and married Mose Humphress. Thereafter, she was joined by Hattie Johnson Dixon, the daughter of her eldest sister Eliza, and Hattie's children, Aaron and Albert Dixon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, Morgan and Rachel Smith, one sister, Eliza Lewis Johnson, and her son, James Davis.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Mose, and her stepchildren; one brother, Rev. Edmond Lewis (Mattie) of Clarksville, Texas, and one sister, Kate Lewis of Cement, Oklahoma, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
