Author. She wrote the book "Together: Annals of an Army Wife" (1946), an autobiography about her life with her husband, US Army General George Catlett Marshall, who later became the US Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense. Born in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, she had previously been married to a Baltimore, Maryland lawyer who was murdered by a dissatisfied client in 1928. In 1929 she was visiting a family friend in Columbus, Georgia, and was introduced at a party to Marshall, who was stationed as the assistant commandant at nearby Fort Benning, and whose first wife had died in 1927. They developed a relationship and married in Baltimore on October 15, 1930.
