SERVICES HERE FOR C.E. SWEET Victim of Sardis, Ga., Hotel Fire to Be Buried Tomorrow
Funeral service for Charles E. Sweet of Summerville, who was burned to death early Sunday morning in a fire which destroyed the Sardis hotel, at Sardis Ga., will be held at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Interment will take place in the St. Laurence cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of McAlister's.
Mr. Sweet was in the lumber business and had been in Sardis recently, where he was superintendent of the Vestal Lumber company. For many years he was with Prettyman Lumber company. He was sixty-three years old.
The hotel which was a two-story frame building was completely destroyed with the loss of $10,000. Miss Freddie Rackley, the proprietor and several guests escaped by jumping from windows. Mr. Sweet had been in Summerville where he had gone on account of illness and had just returned to Sardis.
He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. P. H. Penrod, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Mrs. H. M. Carper, of Los Angeles, Cal., and Miss Bernice Sweet, Miss Crystal Sweet, Miss Ruth Sweet, and Mrs. L. W Priebe of Summerville and three sons, DeForest E. Sweet of St. Stephens; Martin V. Sweet of Albemarie, N. C. and Meredith Sweet of Summerville
