Sgt. Michael A. Chiodo was shot down over Germany in 1944 and his body was not returned to the US until 2010. His flight orginated from an air base in County Norfolk, England. It was attacked by a German fighter squadron before reaching it's target. There were ten crew memberson board. His family was informed of his missing status in July of 1944. In 2003, a German citizen found a crash site near Meitze and excavated the site. He turned over human remains to U.S. officials. In 2005 and again in 2007, a joint POW/MIA Accounting Command team traveld to the site and recoverd more remains and crew related equipment which included tags for four of the crew members. On Wedensday, Oct 20, 2010 Sgt. Michael A. Chiodo was laid to rest with his sister and neice in attendance along with hundreds of community supporters. He was the son of Michele and Marie Chiodo, brother to Russell, Marie, Arnold, John, Lucy, Adolph, Carmella, Frank,and Rose Chiodo. He graduated from Collinwood High School and entered the service as an engineer and arial gunner.
