Robert Smith Todd had been educated at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky and became clerk of the Kentucky state house of delegates, a state assemblyman, and a state senator. He and his wife, Eliza Parker, had seven children of whom Mary was the fourth. Mary would later marry Abraham Lincoln.

The above picture is a painting of Robert Smith Todd, which I believe to be correct, the other is a Daguerreotype which looks somewhat like the painting. I was questioned whether it was a actual picture of Mr. Todd. Historian Benjamin L#49525544 said the Daguerreotype was probably around 1845 ish and other Historians agreed that it was Robert Smith Todd.
