Allen was raised in Magnolia, Iowa.
He met and married Theresa Marie Shetley were married 16 December 1965 in Tarrant, Texas.
Arriving in Vietnam 3 May 1968, Allen was assigned to the 187th Assault Helicopter Company, 269th Aviation Battalion, 12th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Bridge, USARV. Allen and his crew were flying on UH-1H on night flare mission in support of an infantry unit fighting against hostile forces. During the flare mission a flare ignited aboard the UH-1H. Due to the blinding flare Allen was unable to maneuver the helicopter to a safe landing. The helicopter crashed and burned with all 5 crew members on board 7 kilometers west of Ben Suc. There were no survivors.
Allen served his country for 6 years.
Survived by his wife, Theresa Marie Shetley Duneman of Grissom Air Force Base, Indiana and his parents, Marvin O and Arline Sears Duneman and his brother, Francis Marvin Duneman of Rural Route #1, Mabel, Minnesota.
