He was a son of Thomas Joyce who was born in Charlotte County, Va.
Alexander was living on his fathers' tract of land in Surry County, N.C. in 1780 when Thomas made his Will in Va. (that tract of land is now in Stokes County, N.C.)
The land was divised to Thomas' two sons, Alexander and Isaac and was located on Crooked Creek.

Sarah Joyce born by 1780 in Surry County, NC, married Thomas Frazier on 10 Aug 1799 in Stokes County, NC.

Alexander Joyce born 15 Mar 1781 Surry County, NC , died 24 Sept 1862. Married Mary Coffee. Alexander inherited land from her father in Patrick County, Va. They lived there for a while and moved to Jefferson County, Indiana.

Jane Joyce (Jency) married 25 Oct 1802 in Stokes County, NC to George Breedlove. They moved to Shelby County, Indiana.

Nancy Joyce married 18 Dec 1803 Stokes County, NC to Stephen Poor.
