William J. Mayfield died at his home four miles southeast of Cummings at 4:20 o'clock this morning, aged 73 years. The funeral will occur to-morrow. The services will be at the house at 10, and at 12 o'clock the body will be taken from there to the Mount Pleasant cemetery, where the burial will take place.

William J. Mayfield, who died at his home southeast of Cummings on Monday [Nov 9] last, came to Atchison county in 1854; he had lived on the farm where he died since 1857. He was born in Franklin county, Missouri, April 9, 1830, and was married to Miss Sarah Morris June 4, 1857, who, with nine children, survives him. He was an excellent man, and universally esteemed in this section of the state.
