He joined the church at Green Hill, 2nd Sunday in May, 1888. Rest soldier, rest.

Henry enlisted in the Confederate States Army on March 10, 1862 at the Patrick County Court House,Virginia as a private. He was mustered in Company H, 24th Virginia Infantry. On April 1, 1865 he received a gun shot wound in the left leg and thigh at the Battle of Five Forks. He was in the hospital when he was captured on April 3,1865 in Virginia. He was transferred to General Hospital on April 17, 1865 and received at the U.S.A. General Hospital in Fort Monroe, VA on May 14, 1865. He was then transferred to Camp Deleware upon taking the oath of allegiance on June 21,1865. His service record notes he was 21 years old when he took the oath.
