Spurgeon on 12 December 1895 in Nacogdoches County, TX. In the 1900 U.S. census, she is enumerated in Justice Precinct 4, Nacogdoches, TX, with her husband and two children, James Willis and Annie. Next door are three of her brothers and one sister, Frances Jane. On 31 October 1902, her daughter, Annie, passed away at the age of three. On 30 October 1903, her daughter, Lena Mae was born, but she unfortunately passed away on 20 May 1906. In the 1910 U.S. census, she is enumerated with her husband, son James Willis, and daughter Myrtie Chlorea (still in Justice Precinct 4). In the 1920 U.S. census, she is still in Justice Precinct 4 with her husband and two surviving children, James and Myrtie. In the 1930 - 1950 census records, she is in Justice Precinct 4 with just her husband. Her husband passed away in 1953, and she followed in 1955.
