He was the first German child born in Ann Arbor, MI. He graduated from U of M in 1854. He was professor of Greek and Latin at Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. His wife died Feb. 1884.

Columbus, O. Dec. 28.—Prof. Emmanuel Schmid died here today of a paralytic stroke. He had been professor of Latin and Greek in the Lutheran Capital University here since 1859 and was for the same period one of the editors of the Kirchen Zeitung. Prof Schmid was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1835
