Horace Baldwin was the seventh mayor of Houston serving in 1844.

Horace Baldwin brought his family to Houston in 1845. Horace Baldwin was a brother-in-law of A. C. Allan, one of the townsite owners and founders of the city of Houston. The former on coming to Texas engaged in shipping on the Gulf coast and later became one of the first mayors of the city of Houston. We regret to announce the death of Horace
Baldwin, Esq., formerly Mayor of Houston.
He died at Galveston on the 8th inst., after a
short illness of only 22 hours. Mr. Baldwin
was distinguished for great _________ of

brought to this city on Monday and buried
with imposing funeral ceremonies in the
family enclosure in the city cemetery. His
