US Congressman. He served during the Civil War first as a 1st Lieutenant and regimental Adjutant of the 1st Iowa Volunteer Cavalry, then as a Captain and Assistant Adjutant General of US Volunteers. He was elected to represent Iowa's 1st Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1877 to 1879.
