HOWARD, George R ~~ CIVIL WAR VETERAN**** **** W Linwood
Civil War vet, Co D 16th IA Inf,

Wounded in right knee 21 Jun 1864 at Nickajack GA
------
Died in this place, on Tuesday, December 19th, George R. Howard, son of Thomas and Eliza Howard, aged 26 years.
Yes, dear brother, thou hast severed the third link from our family chain, and taken it to unite with those already gone before. Although we sadly miss thy dear presence from our midst, with all they suffering we would not, though we could, recall thee back to earth again; and while we are left to weep over the loss of thy companionship as a loving son and brother, let us ever bear in mind "This God who hat bereft us, He can all our sorrows heal." And in His own good time, when He shall have called us over the dark river, then the now broken chain will again be reunited, never more to be severed by the cold icy hand of death, for "thou art only gone before. " A SISTER
