There is also a military stone, found in a Sioux Falls backyard. The stone was taken from that yard, but eventually returned, and placed near the family stone. George Ward served with Company D, First Maine Cavalry in the Union Army. Battles he fought include Bull Run, Antietam and Fredericksburg.

Parents: Abijah C. Ward 1814 – ,Harriet Hawks 1817 –

Marriage: 3 Jun 1869 Moved to South Dakota in 1889, from Maine. Had 3 daughters, Edith (b 1885), Alice May (Fred Hanscom)(Alice b 1870 d 1933)& Lizzie (b 1875).
