Monico Felipe Perez, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the age of 93.

He was born on February 5, 1917 to Juan and Antonia Olivarez Perez in Rio Grande City, Texas. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Hebbronville, Texas where he grew and went to school. After graduating from Hebbronville High School, Perez moved to San Antonio to begin his career in civil service at Kelly AFB. In 1943, he moved to Corpus Christi and worked for the United States Naval Air Station until 1948 when he joined the United Marine Corps. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to work at the Naval Air Station and Corpus Christi and remained in civil service for 43 years. During his tenure with the Navy, he received numerous awards and letters of commendation for outstanding service. Perez is a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister under Msgr. Richard Shirley. He was member of the Alhambra Caravan No. 78 and a Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Shoreline Club for 50 years. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Jack Wiech Fellow for dedicated service to the children of the Texas Lions Camps. He also received the Leader Dog Tribute in recognition for his dedication and commitment to Leader Dogs for the Blind. Perez lived life to the fullest. He loved to travel and dance. He was a lifetime member of the Carousel Dance Club and the Revelaires Dance Club. He was a devote Catholic, a true gentleman, charming, classy and easy going. His generosity and graces touched the lives of all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia, of 43 years. They had no children.

Survivors include his three nephews; Herberto Heras of Houston, Juan Gabriel Salazar of San Antonio, Henry Lee Whitman Jr. of Floresville; six nieces: Graciela Vasquez Miller of Schertz, Susanna Salazar Rodriguez of Rio Grande City, Veronica Salazar Escobedo of San Antonio, Elida Adriana Heras of Benavides, Jessica Whitman Johnson of Robstown and Sandra Whitman Katz of San Antonio; and his beloved friend and companion Dora Lee Lambert of Corpus Christi.

The Family would like to thank Peter and Nancy Anzaldua for their care, love, and support during the entire time of his illness and also Angel Bright Hospice Care.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Seaside Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. that same evening at the Seaside Chapel.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
