Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served in the Civil War first as Lieutenant Colonel fo the 2nd Ohio Volunteer cavalry, then as Colonel and Commander the 12th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for 'gallant and meritorious services in the expiditions under Generals Burbridge and Stoneman in Southwest Virginia".
