Puerto Rico Politician. Always enthusiastic in here idea that women should get the right to vote is how she became involved in politics. In 1938 she helped found the Partido Popular Democratico, one of the main parties today in Puerto Rico. In 1946 she became the first woman to be mayor of a capital city in America, by being elected mayor of San Juan. In 1954 she was awarded the Woman of the Americas merit. She retired in 1968 and died in 1994. She is buried in the Cementerio de la Capital in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
