Born Marcella Miserandino in Manhattan, she moved in 1922 to the Dyker Heights of Brooklyn, where she lived until 2003, when she relocated to Staten Island.
Mrs. Gallo graduated in 1926 from the Fashion Institute of Technology, at the time when it was known as a finishing school. She worked as a designer for the Manhattan company Danarjo, which manufactured elite lines of cocktail dresses.
"She sketched, made the patterns, selected the preferred fabrics, and made the dresses," said her daughter, Marianna Mishik. "She was very talented, she could just look at something, and make it. She made wedding gowns for me, my daughter, and three nieces, including the embroidery and beadwork, all by hand."
"The most important thing in her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she was always thrilled to see them," said Mrs. Mishik.
Mrs. Gallo also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and tatting, and was active in the senior citizens group at St. Bernadette's Church in Dyker Heights.
Mrs. Gallo's husband of sixty-nine years, Lawrence Gallo, died in 1992.
In addition to her daughter, Marianna, she is survived by two grandchildren, and and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday from the Mattrew Funeral Home, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Rita's R.C. Church.
Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery.
