His best known role was on television portraying the Greek god of war 'Ares' first in the series "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys," then in both "Xena: Warrior Princess" and "Young Hercules," which were successful spin-offs. He also appeared in television movies and in the theater. He was preparing to film a martial arts motion picture in China when he slipped off a prop tower and fell three stories. He was in a coma for eleven days until he died of his injuries.
