Drummer. Born in New Orleans, Gardner launched his professional career directly after high school, initially touring with R&B vocalist Lil Green before joining Edgar & The Gondoliers. After a nine year span with Roy Brown, Gardner's career as a recording artist took-off starting in 1960; he garnered attention nationally as a drummer for Sam Cooke until his death in 1964; he played on tracks from Cooke's acclaimed "Live at the Harlem Square Club" (1963). This was followed with his instrumental contributions to fellow New Orleans' native Lee Dorsey's 1966 hit "Working in a Coal Mine", a solo album effort titled "Bustin' Out" (1966, under the Mercury Record label), and a membership in Lionel Hampton's Orchestra; he played on tracks from his "A L' Olympia" album (1970). In addition, he was bandleader of the jazz music group June Gardner and the Fellas.
