Thelma Fae (Jolliffe) Fillman was born at home March 11, 1925 to George and Marie Jolliffe in Havelock, Iowa, and passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at Green Pine Acres in Menahga. She was 85.

Thelma was very active in sports and, being tall, was a natural at basketball. She and her team played in a state championship game. She graduated from Havelock High School in 1942.

After graduation, Thelma moved to Des Moines, Iowa to continue school at the American Institute of Business from which she had received a basketball scholarship. Upon graduation, she worked for various companies including, Coca-Cola, 7-UP, Republic Pictures and KRNT radio station, all in Des Moines.

Thelma married Robert Fillman of Des Moines, Iowa Oct. 7, 1947. Two children were born to Robert and Thelma, Michael Jay in 1948 and Jana Marie in 1949.

Robert served in the U.S. Air Force, which led to multiple moves throughout the U.S. Midwest as well as London, England.

When Robert retired from the military in 1964, the family moved to Andrew's University in Berrien Springs, Mich. where Bob and Thelma resided for 33 years. While in Michigan, Thelma worked in the university's student lounge as a hostess. For years, she was an avid representative for the Luziers Cosmetic Co. Many people commented, especially in her later years, on the beauty of her skin.

In 1997, Bob and Thelma moved to Park Rapids to be near daughter, Jana, during their retirement years. After Robert passed away in 2009, Thelma lived with Jana until three weeks before her death.

Thelma is survived by her brother, Donald Jolliffe of Louisville, Ky.; her children, Michael Fillman of Cherry Valley, Calif. (Arlys) and Jana Erickson of Park Rapids, (Clair); seven grandchildren, Lowell Erickson, Jason Fillman (Marielena), Karen Erickson Franke (Leslie), Tricia Erickson Graham (Thomas), Laurella Fillman Case (Adam), Tanya Erickson Imler (Toby) and Kevin Erickson; and three great-grand children.

Thelma's parents; husband, Robert; sister, Vera and brother, Robert preceded her in death.

Funeral service: was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Park Rapids, with Pastor Ken Mayberry officiating.

Casket bearers: grandchildren, Lowell Erickson, Jason Fillman, Karen Franke, Tricia Graham, Laurella Case, Tanya Imler and Kevin Erickson.

Interment: Henrietta Cemetery near Park Rapids.
