After graudating from the St. Louis School of Fine Arts in 1878, Eames worked as a draftsman for local architects before traveling to Europe to study abroad in 1881. After he returned to St. Louis, Eames was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Public Buildings and soon had completed plans for several structures in St. Louis. In 1890, Eames was elected the first president of the Missouri chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 1884 and became the National President in 1904. His most noted designs were the Place of Education at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair and the Cupples Warehouse Complex. He was the uncle of architect/designer Charles Eames.
