Samuel, named in honor of his maternal grandfather, Samuel Price, was raised in Frankfort. He helped his mother, Lucy Price Weisiger, run the family inn, Weisiger House, in Frankford after his father's death until she sold it and later moved to Texas. He moved to Louisville where he became known as a prominent businessman.

Married twice, to 1. Jane Stokes and 2. Elizabeth Ann Cowan and had one daughter by each.
