She was born to her parents Samuel and Amy Oldham.
She attended school, graduating in 1941 from Needles High School. She attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles, CA. Where she attained a degree in accounting.
While working at Douglas Aircraft during World War 11, she met her future husband Lt. Martin Peter Alger, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, at a USO dance.
They spent the next twenty six years traveling and raising a family in the Air Force. Upon retirement from the Air Force both Dorothy and Pete worked for the County of Tulare for the next fifteen years.
Upon their retirement they both enjoyed many years of traveling with the Visalia Gadabouts, square dancing and collecting Department 56 Dickens Village houses. Dorothy displayed her village each Christmas for the delight of her family and friends.
Dorothy was an active member in numerous organizations such as the; First Congregational Church, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Beta Sigma Phi, Retired Officers Association, Tulare County Retired Employees Association and Tulare Garden Club.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Karen Arend and Christine (Tom) Griesbach from Tulare and Martin Alger Jr., of Visalia.
She is survived also by four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and many close friends.
She's preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother, Eugene Jolley.
Memorial Service at First Congregational Church, 220 West Tulare, Tulare, CA., with burial at Tulare District Cemetery, 900 East Kern Avenue, Tulare, CA.
